DIY Fabric Flowers

I just absolutely LOVE the fun little DIY projects that pop up in my inbox from DIY blogger, Emily.
She's so crafty and creative! I love to make things like this and its always a big help with these little tutorials!

This is what I used:
Fabric--lace and sheer champagne
Scissors
Quilting thread (more dense and durable in my opinion)
Needle

Step 1:
Cut Fabric.
For my base piece, I used the lace because it was more sturdy. I cut it about 4x4 (which will end up about a 3 1/2 inch flower). Each layer afterward about 1/2 inch smaller, rotating fabrics.
About 6 layers was all I needed.

Step 2:
Make petals.
Fold the squares (the same way you would fold paper to make a snowflake:))---half, half again, then once more diagonally.
You should end up with something like-

Cut the end to be round and even.

Step 3:
Layer.
Align the pieces of fabric in larger to smaller order.

Step 4:
Stitch.
Sew a small stitch into the middle of the flower to hold pieces together then fold in half.
Sew several stitches into the fold to bring the flower together.

In this part of the project, you will need to see what looks best for your flower, fold the middle in different and complementing directions and make stitches accordingly. I find that pinching different areas and then stitching what looks right works the best.
This step should bring the petals together and give the flat flower depth and life.

Turn your flower over and fluff!

                         That's it! Enjoy! xoxo-M

DIY Air Freshener

This is possibly the easiest DIY project ever. It is cheap, quick, and long-lasting. How perfect? This project is for those who want to be Eco-friendly, green, organic, granola, etc. Oh, and it's for the crafty people too! We are going to make an air freshener bag. I had never thought of doing something like this until my mom asked me to make one for her. Simply put- it is a small, light bag that holds your favorite scents. We made several burlap bags and put cinnamon sticks and whole cloves in them for the house; we also made linen bags with lavender scented cotton balls for the bedrooms. Like I always say: be creative, put your own spin on it, and make it yours!

The Stuff:
Fabric of your choice (something that will let the air circulate)
Twine
*Cinnamon Sticks
*Whole Cloves
*Cotton Balls
*Lavender Oil

**You can use whatever scents you want!

Step One:
Make a small pouch with your fabric, super easy, sew only two sides.

Step Two:
About 1/2 inch from the top of your pouch, cut small holes, 1/4 inch apart, all the way around.

Step Three:
Weave twine through holes.

Step Four:
Use about 5-8 drops of essential oil on cotton balls and put them into the bag, or put cinnamon sticks and cloves in them. Tie the bag shut, place it wherever it will have good air circulating.

We used our burlap bags on registers so that the air would be constantly circulating through them; we placed the lavender bags on our nightstands beside our beds.

I hope that you will enjoy this project! Please let us know how yours turn out, and if you have any questions, feel free to ask(:
-Emily
